What is lymphatic drainage in massage therapy?
Lymphatic drainage is a little-known massage therapy technique. However, it is effective in strengthening the immune system and combating seasonal allergies. These allergies are often linked to a weakened immune system. This gentle method helps reduce symptoms such as itchy eyes, runny noses and fatigue.
The origins of lymphatic drainage
In 1930, Emil Vodder, Doctor of Philosophy, developed manual lymphatic drainage by observing patients suffering from chronic colds and swollen lymph nodes. His approach proved beneficial in stimulating lymph circulation and boosting the immune system.
When do we need this technique in massage therapy?
To prevent or alleviate the effects of seasonal allergies, we recommend scheduling a lymphatic drainage session at the start of each season, particularly in spring and autumn. A 90-minute treatment provides complete and effective lymphatic drainage.
How a session works
Lymphatic drainage is a very soothing treatment. During the session, the patient lies comfortably on his or her back, ideally without tight-fitting clothing so as not to impede lymphatic circulation. The therapist uses gentle, regular movements: a pumping motion at the lymph nodes, followed by a wave-like motion to naturally stimulate lymph circulation.
The benefits of lymphatic drainage
This technique is ideal for people suffering from congestion, recurring colds or seasonal allergies. By stimulating the lymphatic system, the body eliminates toxins more easily and boosts immunity.
