Running analysis
Gain a better understanding of your running form to optimize your movement
Whether you’re a beginner runner, an experienced athlete, or simply looking to get back into running, your running form can affect your comfort and performance. The running analysis performed by our podiatrists allows us to observe your movement while you run in order to better understand your biomechanics and identify factors that may be contributing to pain, discomfort, or difficulty making progress.
What does a running analysis involve?
A running analysis is a dynamic assessment of your running form. Your podiatrist observes, among other things, the movements of your feet and lower limbs while you run to better understand your movement pattern.
The analysis can help identify various aspects of your stride, such as foot roll, lower limb positioning, joint movements, and any asymmetries between the two sides of your body. This evaluation is conducted with consideration of your specific situation, running habits, goals, and—when relevant—any pain or injuries you may have.
Why get your running form analyzed?
An analysis can be helpful if you experience pain while running, have a recurring injury, or want to better understand certain discomforts that arise during or after your workouts.
It can also be helpful when returning to running after a break or an injury, or simply to get a more accurate picture of your biomechanics and running form. The goal isn’t to find a “perfect stride,” but rather to understand your movement and determine if certain aspects warrant special attention.
An assessment tailored to your situation
Every runner is different. Your age, level of experience, training volume, shoes, injury history, and goals can all influence the way you run. That’s why the analysis goes beyond simply observing your stride. Your podiatrist takes your entire situation into account to provide recommendations tailored to your needs.
Depending on the results of the assessment, various strategies may be considered, including advice on shoes, training progression, specific running habits, or podiatric care when indicated.
