Insomnia can have many causes, from physical problems to hormonal and emotional imbalances. Here are just a few examples:
- Physical problems: A very tense neck and trapezius can create sleep problems.
- Hormonal imbalances: Hormonal fluctuations, such as those seen during menopause, can disrupt sleep.
- Emotional factors: Excessive stress and incessant thinking can also contribute to insomnia.
Acupuncture therefore focuses on treating the underlying causes of insomnia.
Why is insomnia an important signal?
If you’ve been suffering from insomnia for a long time, it’s a signal from your body that something is wrong. The human body functions according to a natural rhythm, like working during the day and sleeping at night. Internal organs such as the stomach, intestines, gallbladder and liver all have specific rhythms.
When this rhythm is disrupted over a long period, it can lead to various health problems such as constipation, diarrhea, hyperthyroidism, depression and, of course, insomnia.
Acupuncture and sympathetic and parasympathetic nerves
The human body’s rhythm is closely linked to sympathetic and parasympathetic nerves. Sympathetic nerve channels can be found on either side of the spinal column, along with 31 spinal nerve nodes.
In the case of problems such as constipation, diarrhea, insomnia, high blood pressure or hyperglycemia, nerve compression points can often be detected along the spinal column. These compression points affect the transmission of nerve signals and may be correlated with the onset of symptoms. Acupuncture can relieve these compression points and restore the normal transmission of nerve signals, thereby restoring the body’s rhythm and relieving symptoms.
A concrete example: My husband’s case
My husband has suffered from diabetes for 15 years. He takes insulin four times a day, eats very little and runs five kilometers a day. However, his blood sugar remains difficult to control, with sudden fluctuations. He has developed severe insulin resistance, and oral medication has not been effective.
Since 2020, I’ve been using acupuncture to balance his sympathetic and parasympathetic nerves. The treatment has been very effective: today, his blood sugar is below 8 and there is no more hypoglycemia.
Acupuncture offers an effective method of treating a variety of symptoms by restoring the body’s natural balance.
All in all, I’m delighted to be able to share acupuncture techniques with you and offer personalized treatments. Experience for yourself the benefits of acupuncture with Zhen Li.
