Food introduction

Complementary foods are typically introduced around the age of 6 months. However, every child is different, so it can be challenging to determine when to start this process. During your evaluation with your registered dietitian, you will discuss various developmental signs to look for in order to determine if your toddler is ready for the introduction of solid foods.

Baby-Led Weaning (BLW), purees, or mixed approach, the nutritional assessment can also guide you towards the method that best suits your family. Regardless of the approach chosen, your registered dietitian will equip you with the tools and knowledge necessary to confidently introduce solid foods to your child.

In addition to advising you on which foods to introduce first and in what quantities, she can also assist you in establishing an environment favorable to food introduction. Whether it’s introducing allergens or avoiding choking hazards, your registered dietitian will provide guidance to ensure that this process is done safely, always in line with your child’s unique development. Monitoring your child’s diet will be done at each stage of food introduction to ensure that their nutritional needs are met and that they grow to their full potential.
