It is more common in children under 2 years old but can occur at any age. Failure to thrive can be caused by a health condition that affects nutrient intake, absorption, or utilization. However, in the majority of cases, failure to thrive is caused by feeding-related issues. Difficulties with breastfeeding, refusal to eat, sensory disorders, and a small appetite are all factors that can lead to stunted growth. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Even though this situation can be very stressful for parents, don&#8217;t worry! Most children catch up on their growth curve. To help your child grow well, being monitored by a nutrition professional is the key. Your registered dietitian will assist you in achieving this goal while alleviating any stress or guilt you may be feeling. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Following the nutritional assessment, you will be able to identify targets for calories and other nutrients necessary for growth. Together, you will develop strategies to help your child reach these targets. Your registered dietitian can also provide guidance on supplements: if they are necessary, you will create a supplementation plan tailored to your child. Being monitored by a registered dietitian is much more than discussing calories and supplements! In fact, they can support you with practical tips and tricks to facilitate the plan&#8217;s implementation at home with your little one.
