As you may know, my spouse and I recently became parents. My childbirth made me think a lot and I think I have found the origin of “dad’s jokes”…
“Dad jokes” are often puns that are either boring enough to make us laugh or rather roll our eyes.
Why are they attributed to fathers?
After my cesarean, my abs had obviously been cut, which made any abdominal contraction excruciatingly painful. I had to beg my spouse not to make me laugh, otherwise I would be in pain. Hence, in my opinion, the richness of “dad jokes” which relax the atmosphere. And, who knows, if I had had a vaginal birth, maybe I would have had urinary leakage or other problems exacerbated by laughter… So long live the “dad jokes”!
